Lares trek
Lares Trek is a special hike because it´s an exclusive rute used mostly for farmers and not developed by the regular turism.The landscape show us waterfalls, glaciers: Pumahuanca, Sirihuari are some of them; Lakes, Farmer villages, living as hundred years ago, keeping their traditions, they let us open door to see and learn of their simplicity sorruonded by the amazing valleys and Andean mountains. Lares Trek could be done in 2 nights and 2 ½ days or 3 nights and 3 ½ days, ending on the Lares´s hot springs.
2 nights and 3 days:
FIRST DAY: We start in Querocancha (3 km. From Urubamba) 8:30 am. the journey is 5 km. To the lunchpoint in the Pacchaspata farmer community. Then we keep going crossing the wild forest of Queuñas, faterfall waking for 2.5 km more to our firt camping site situated in Cuyuc, the begining of the Pumahuanca Valley. 4 100 meters above sea level. Time to arrive at least 3:30 pm.
SECOND DAY: We leave the camping place at 9:00 am. begening the ascent to the Pumahuancajasa pass with elavation of 4 650 meters above sea level, where we can enjoy the great views to the sagred Valley wich we left behind and in front of us the mountain group with gaciers and lakes together in just one picture. Then we go down to the Lares Valley stopping to eat the lunch in front of the Sirihuani glacier and Queullacocha lake (if the weather let us see them). Afterwards we keep going down to our second camping site situeted in the Cuncani community (arrival at least 3:30pm) Where their main activity is grow different kind of potatos and raise alpacas and lambs.
THIRD DAY: We leave the camping site at 7:00 am . to go to the hot springs..We have to get there at 13 .00 hours .Where we´ll spend 2 hours of relaxing and resting into the water. Then we come back to hike for 2km more to the town to eat lunch and take the local bus back to The Sagred Valley. Arrival in Urubamba 4.00 pm.
